Transportation in Rwanda

Rwanda's transport is built around three tiers: moto-taxis for darting through traffic at a fraction of a car fare, shared minibuses that cover every town and village for cheap, and private hire cars when you want comfort and air-conditioning. In Kigali the ride-hailing apps Yego and Move are the insider's choice, tap, set your pickup, and watch the driver snake toward you on the live map, no haggling required. Outside the capital, motos still rule. Just agree the destination and price before you swing a leg over. First-timers should know that city motos are generally safe but insist on a helmet (drivers carry a spare) and avoid the unmarked ones clustered outside big hotels, they'll quote tourist rates. Minibuses leave when full, not to a schedule, so if you're time-sensitive book a seat in a shared taxi instead. Cash is still king everywhere except the apps, so keep small notes handy. From Kigali International, the simplest arrival move is a pre-booked hotel shuttle or an app ride. The airport taxi rank is reliable but costs noticeably more. Skip the freelance drivers who meet you inside baggage claim, they'll quote inflated fares and often lack meters.
